Sleds can easily be slid off the deck to unload. Ramps are designed at a "user friendly pitch" so they do not slide off too quickly or get hung up anywhere on the way down.
There are high side rails along the edges of the ramp to keep front skis from sliding off course when loading or unloading.

There is plenty of protection provided by the headache rack behind your cab. Side rails on top of the deck are high to keep sleds from sliding off to the side when loading and unloading.
The polyethylene surface on the ramp track and top of the deck are not slippery and can easily be kept clear of snow.
During the week when the deck is not loaded with sleds the sides can be pushed in and there is much usable space on top of the deck. As well, the deck provides a weatherproof cover for articles in the box.
If you lock your tailgate anything in the box is secure with the deck on.
